Djuric: Donald Trump Jr.'s visit a significant resource for Serbia amid complex geopolitical relations

Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric emphasized that the visit of Donald Trump Jr., the son of the US president, to Serbia represents momentum for a strong start in relations with the new US administration. Speaking on the morning program of TV Prva, Djuric also addressed the Bosnia and Herzegovina Prosecutor’s Office's warrant for the arrest of Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik, calling it a step toward further escalation in the region.
Djuric pointed out that direct and positive contact with the new US administration is a crucial resource for Serbia in complex geopolitical relations.
“That is why I am pleased that Donald Trump’s son, who is himself highly politically active, has come to our country. I believe this provides great momentum for an excellent start to relations with the new administration. Over the years, we have invested significant efforts as a state to strengthen our role in Washington, but this personal connection, which President Vucic has been building with the Trump family for years... Let’s not forget that he was one of the first world leaders to speak with Trump when he became the US president. That is extremely important for us, and I believe there are those in the region who are watching it closely,” Minister Djuric stated.
He also addressed the Bosnia and Herzegovina Prosecutor’s Office’s warrant for the arrest of Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik, calling it a move toward further escalation in the region.
“We stand with Republika Srpska and our people. I do not believe that Milorad Dodik is the cause of the political crisis and current tensions. We have consistently supported the Serbian people, and the days when barriers were placed along the Drina against our people are long gone. We are proud of our strong ties with Republika Srpska, and we seek excellent cooperation throughout the region and good relations with everyone. President Vucic boarded a plane the same day to personally offer his support, so there is no doubt about where we stand,” Djuric stressed.
Djuric noted that it is high time for the international community to begin pressuring extremist political circles in the Federation.
“We want excellent relations with the leadership in Sarajevo, but they leave no room for that, with constant pressure on Republika Srpska and repeated attempts to undermine the Dayton Agreement. We have seen that President Dodik is calling for dialogue, yet this goes largely unnoticed. I believe political leaders should agree on a moratorium on this kind of conflict for the next ten years because if it continues, I fear that people from the region will start seeking their future elsewhere,” Djuric concluded.
