Member of the European Parliament and rapporteur for Kosovo, Viola von Cramon, visited the Gracanica Monastery today, where she was welcomed by the Bishop of Raska and Prizren, Teodosije. In a statement to journalists, she emphasized that it could not be denied that the monastery belonged to the Serbian Orthodox Church and that those who attempted to rewrite history would not be very successful in their endeavors.

“Anyone can try to rewrite the truth, but they will not be very successful in doing so“, Von Cramon said in response to a question about how she viewed Kosovo's attempts to appropriate the heritage of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Kosovo.

She emphasizes that all the necessary evidence exists and demonstrates what belongs to the Serbian Orthodox Church.

"In Germany, you can say that all Protestant churches were Catholic before Protestantism became the official religion because they were. However, this is not the case here, and I hope and call for rationality not to question these facts", Von Cramon stated.

As she stated, she needs to see different cultural heritages in Kosovo, and the Visoki Decani Monastery and Gracanica Monastery are definitely among the fundamental and most significant.

She emphasized that it was a great honor, pleasure, and joy for her to be in the Gracanica Monastery today, where she could see the history closely connected with the people living there.

Noting that it was her first time in Gracanica, Von Cramon said that she had been to various places in Kosovo but, unfortunately, had not had the opportunity to visit Gracanica until that day.

"Every time I come to Kosovo, I visit different places. I've been to Strpce, Peja, the north, Decani, not just Pristina. This time, Gracanica is on the agenda", Von Cramon said in response to the question of why she chose to visit the monastery at the end of her mandate.
