Vucic with Guterres on Kosovo, regional developments, and the role of the UN in today’s world
President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic met today in New York with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, with whom he discussed Kosovo, regional developments, possible steps toward overcoming challenges, as well as the role of the United Nations in today’s world.
“Always a good and open conversation with António Guterres, with whom I exchanged views on the most important global topics and key issues concerning the future of the world we will leave to generations to come. We also discussed Kosovo and Metohija, our regional circumstances, and possible steps to overcome challenges,” Vucic wrote on Instagram.
He conveyed to Guterres that he had listened with special attention to his opening address before the UN General Assembly, as well as to the main messages delivered to today’s leaders, which all should reflect upon.
Vučić noted that they particularly considered the place and role of the United Nations in a world marked by rapid and often complex changes whose impact extends beyond local and regional significance.
“In this respect, I emphasized that a serious, prudent, responsible, and rational policy, as well as a return to the principles of the UN Charter, is the only true path toward a fairer and safer world,” the Serbian President added.
Vučić stated that on this path, Serbia, as a founding member of the UN, will always lend firm support to efforts aimed at bringing back to the global stage the principles upon which international relations should rest—principles consistently upheld by our country, regardless of circumstances, obstacles, or challenges.
