The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Marko Djuric, stated on the opening day of the landmark 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York that the Serbian delegation has begun its active participation at the annual gathering, engaging in numerous bilateral and multilateral meetings.

“The Serbian delegation has begun participating in the annual session of the UN General Assembly. The President of Serbia has arrived in New York. Our delegation consists of a number of experts working here with us to create an environment that will be even more favorable for our country. On the first day of the Serbian delegation’s work here in New York, we held a series of meetings with foreign ministers from countries of various profiles,” Djuric emphasized.

He added that Serbia has been recognized in these talks as a responsible actor and partner.

“We met with representatives of our friendly Cyprus, as well as representatives from Somalia, Italy, and Azerbaijan. We took part in various events organized on the sidelines of the General Assembly. Serbia has been recognized as a responsible actor, one that maintains the same principles and positions in discussions with all participants in the international community, as a potential, and in some cases already an actual, partner in developing economic relations, a potential or actual partner in security cooperation, and overall, we are working to promote Serbia’s image as a country of stability, a country dedicated to principles, and a country oriented toward the future, everywhere and at every step,” the Serbian foreign minister stressed.

As he noted, meetings were also held with representatives of the energy sector.

“The common denominator of all these very diverse meetings is our effort to create an environment in which Serbia will have as many countries as possible, where the only distinction will be whether they are greater or lesser friends,” Djuric said.

He recalled that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the signing of the UN Charter, and emphasized that Serbia strongly supports multilateralism and the rule of international law.

“Serbia fully advocates multilateralism, meaning the rule of international law. Not only because of Kosovo and Metohija, which will be one of the key topics in all our meetings, but also because of the need to preserve global stability and peace,” Djuric underlined.

According to him, Serbia seeks to present itself as a country of stability, consistency, and a forward-looking orientation:

“We are working to promote Serbia’s image as a country of stability, but also a country dedicated to principles and oriented toward the future, everywhere and at every step,” the Serbian foreign minister reiterated.

Djuric added that the Serbian delegation faces five to six demanding days ahead in the effort to position Serbia in today’s turbulent world.

“I can say that we have stood firmly and resolutely behind the values we believe in, and we will defend them here in a way worthy of our country’s interests,” Djuric stated.
