Vucic: It is an untrue platitude that a worse proposal comes later every time
The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, said today, during the continuation of the extraordinary session of the Assembly on the report of negotiations on Kosovo, that it was an untrue platitude that a worse proposal came later every time.
Vucic, responding to the MP's address, explained that the best evidence was the Vance-Owen plan, after which a more favorable plan for the Serbs had come.
"People must understand that it is not always a question of what is written on any paper, but a question of the circumstances, the political moment, the life around us, and what can be done in the given circumstances," Vucic said.
Vucic said that we had lived in a time when nobody in Serbia had even dreamed or followed the efforts of the Croatian army, so we had not even understood what had happened in 1995, and the same applied to the arming in Kosovo.
"When we sit in a pub, and it's not an Assembly, although it looked like it yesterday, I believe due to the mistake of some people, we don't see realistically. I hope that we will have enough wisdom to draw lessons, to learn when it's time and how long to wait, and also what we can do," Vucic explained.
The President of Serbia said that he was not in favor of a frozen conflict, because he believed that it was not a solution.
Independent MP Zika Gojkovic said that only those who hated Serbia and were against the Serbs could be satisfied with the events in the Parliament.
"No serious politician, both in the opposition and in the position, sees the Kosovo and Metohija as a coin for pocketing the money and would not sign a document that foresees Kosovo's independence and membership in the UN. In order to successfully conduct a dialogue and get through the decade-long crisis, the West and above all the US show understanding for the situation our country is in, which has shown maximum restraint in contrast to the other side in Pristina, which was constantly rattling its weapons. It is also necessary that on the internal level, the state's interests should be above the party's," Gojkovic emphasized.
He said that now was the moment to show unity, as shown by the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija.
"Unlike Kurti, who is in conflict with the US, our country has shown geopolitical pragmatism and has done everything to preserve peace and stability. The CSM must be formed as soon as possible. If nothing else, at least for the protection of the collective rights of our people," Gojkovic underlined.
He said that continuing the dialogue had no alternative because it would be a conflict with the world and isolation.
The determination of Western diplomats is clear, rejecting the plan brings with it consequences, and given that Serbia is dependent on the EU, we know where it leads. EU membership is the only way for all the Serbs to live together. Due to disunity, Serbia lost a lot. Maybe I don't know who the traitor is, but I know very well that the traitor cannot be someone for whom more than two million people voted," Gojkovic said.
Robert Kozma, a member of the Green-Left Club, said that it was undeniable that an agreement and reconciliation had to be reached. He criticized that the discussed plan had not been forwarded to the deputies.
"When the president says that they threatened Serbia with sanctions, we cannot help but suspect that they threatened him personally. We know that he is conducting negotiations solely in his own interest in order to preserve his power," Kozma claims.
He said that the fact that the Serbian Progressive Party had introduced a reign of terror in the north of Kosovo was viewed with suspicion.
Vucic replied that yesterday he had answered 24 lies told by the opposition during the session.
"You told an incidental lie, which is that it seems to you that Vucic was blackmailed and not Serbia. First of all, in order to blackmail someone, you have to have something. I don't have any accounts, nor any wealth abroad or in the country. Do you think I'm interested in who will introduce sanctions? I was proud of the sanctions against me in 1999 because I was guilty of defending the country against aggressors. Nobody ever threatened me with anything," Vucic said.
Vucic told Kozma that he was once again participating in the criminalization of the Serbs in Kosovo when he talked about some kind of reign of terror.
"You are saying everything that certain Foreign Services are doing on purpose - destroying Serbia and the Serbian tissue in Kosovo and they are directly organizing that through the media and politicians. You did not say a word about Kosovo, Kurti; justice, or injustice that comes from abroad. And on this topic, you found it appropriate to talk about me. I can't fully understand that pathological need. If you see something in every topic to harm me personally - you have to turn to someone else. Please think about what is the topic we're discussing today," Vucic emphasized.
Vucic said that the result of yesterday's events in the assembly had been terrible for Serbia, and for the parties that had provoked them.
"I have never negotiated to stay in power with anyone, nor will I. I have won elections against you so many times that I am fed up. I will never negotiate for staying in power; I am only interested in the survival and progress of Serbia. Your solution for Kosovo knot is to abolish the reign of terror in the north, for Vucic and the Serbian Progressive Party to leave, and then everything is solved," the President of Serbia concluded.
