Vucic with Sorensen: Attempt to ban Serb List from elections confirms that Serbs’ rights in Kosovo are endangered

President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic told the EU Special Representative for the Belgrade–Pristina Dialogue, Peter Sorensen, today that it is of essential importance to bring the dialogue back to its fundamental principles, above all the obligation to establish the Community of Serb Municipalities, stressing that the attempt to ban Serb List from participating in local elections confirms that the respect for the basic rights and freedoms of political activity of Serbs in Kosovo is endangered.

“An open conversation with Peter Sorensen, focused on the possibilities for continuing the dialogue with Pristina under EU mediation, as well as on the challenges we face regarding the position of the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija,” Vucic wrote on Instagram.

He pointed out to his interlocutor that it is of crucial importance to return the dialogue to the fundamental principles on which it was founded, above all, the obligation to form the Community of Serb Municipalities, as well as to protect the rights of Serb citizens in Kosovo.

Vucic also stressed that the attempt to prohibit the Serb List from taking part in the upcoming elections once again confirms that the respect for the fundamental rights and freedoms of Serbs’ political participation in Kosovo is under threat.

“Our policy is a policy of peace, firmly dedicated to seeking compromise solutions through dialogue, but also of determined and responsible efforts to preserve state and national interests. Only with mutual respect, clear accountability, and full implementation of what has been agreed can we speak of true stability for the entire region,” President Vucic stated.
