Former US Special Representative for Kosovo and Serbia negotiations, Frank Wisner, believes that if Republican candidate Donald Trump wins the US presidential election, he will work to find a solution to improve relations between Belgrade and Pristina, potentially including border adjustments as a possibility.

Wisner believes that Trump will not wait for Kosovo to comply if he reaches an agreement with Serbia that suits him.

"If he sees any agreement with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic that fits his goals, he won’t wait for Kosovo to comply, he will seek an agreement for progress," the American diplomat told RFE.

In Wisner’s view, Kosovo must be adaptable and secure strong support from Europeans.

“But Kosovo’s position could be difficult,” Wisner confirmed.

If Democratic candidate Kamala Harris takes the White House, Wisner does not expect any progress on Serbia’s recognition of Kosovo.

“I assume a Harris administration would aim for less ambitious goals, attempting to bring Kosovo and Serbia to the table with the Europeans. It would focus on smaller progress in areas like economy, trade, culture, and freedom of movement, issues that begin to ease tensions between the two countries,” he concluded.
