The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Caroline Ziadeh, is closely monitoring developments in northern Kosovo, including today’s actions at the municipal sports facility in Leposavic, UNMIK stated.

“Public spaces are vital for the development of youth and the community. Access to sports is intrinsically linked to human rights, including education, and must be protected for all communities,” Ziadeh stated on the social media platform “X”.

She called on all concerned parties to act with restraint and engage in consultations with the local community — in order to avoid disruption of access to services and to build trust.

Ziadeh reiterated the call for all remaining issues to be resolved through dialogue.

Earlier today, the Mayor of Leposavic, Lulzim Hetemi, and his deputy Marina Bogojevic, assisted by the Kosovo Police, entered the premises of the Sports and Tourism Organization of Leposavic, and a sign with Kosovo insignia was placed at the entrance to the sports hall.
