Andoni: The invitation to Brussels gave Rama the opportunity to test his strength both internationally and domestically
Political analyst from Tirana, Ben Andoni, stated that yesterday's meetings with new EU leaders had allowed Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama to understand their views on the region, while also providing him an opportunity to test his strength on both international and domestic fronts.
Speaking to Kosovo Online, Andoni said the Brussels meetings had been important for Rama to meet the new European Union leaders and "understand what they think."
"It was also an opportunity for him to test his strength in dealings with these institutions. Naturally, Mr. Rama’s role is to demonstrate that his government has done a good job preparing for the start of discussions on the first group of chapters in EU accession negotiations. It is expected that Albania will open another group of chapters this month," Andoni stated.
He believes that Rama will try to leverage these meetings in his electoral campaign.
"I believe Rama will attempt to use this meeting for the upcoming elections in Albania. This is important because he persistently focuses on elections, placing more emphasis on external affairs than domestic ones," Andoni observed.
The meetings also addressed the situation in Kosovo in light of recent events in Zubin Potok.
Andoni notes that Rama seized the opportunity to emphasize the importance of preventing similar incidents in the future.
"Such events must not happen in the future, as they can create problems for the entire region," the analyst from Tirana concluded.
