Vucic: There will be a lot of difficulties, but Kosovo will not enter the UN

President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic stated tonight that he expected many challenges and problems regarding Kosovo, but the new government would fight and never allow Kosovo's membership in the UN and specialized agencies of the world organization.

"We expect a lot of challenges and problems regarding Kosovo, but people know that we will fight and protect our interests. No decision will be easy, but we will take care, and most importantly - we will never allow access to the UN, specialized agencies, institutions, and organizations of the UN to so-called Kosovo", Vucic emphasized for RTS.

He underscored that his team, which had achieved a convincing victory in almost all municipalities in Serbia in the parliamentary and local elections, had already started working on new projects today and leading the country forward.

Vucic stated that the Serbian Progressive Party's list had received just under two million votes in the elections.

"It's meaningless for me to say anything, but, strangely, there is much more news about everyone else with 3, 4, or 5 percent or those who received half the votes than about those who gained the people's trust. Perhaps that's the atmosphere in which we live", Vucic said.

He advised citizens not to worry too much about the irresponsible behavior of individuals in Serbia.

"Serbia is a serious country; there will be peace, order, and laws in Serbia, just as we had honest elections", Vucic stated.

Regarding criticisms of the voting of citizens of Republika Srpska in the elections in Belgrade, Vucic said they had the right to do so.

"They have the right in accordance with the laws they have adopted in this country, not us, but they – and the story about dual citizenship and everything else, which I think is completely normal, civilized, and good for the Serbs", Vucic emphasized.

He assessed that this was a witch hunt against the Serbs because of their political orientation.

"Then they start a witch hunt against our people because they probably don't like the political orientation of those people, although it is, of course, a minor number of votes", Vucic added.

He states that everyone, to gain the people's trust, should demonstrate responsibility and seriousness in their work.

When it comes to the Belgrade elections, Vucic emphasizes that it is his political opponents who lost that question the results.

"I understand that in a political sense. I said three days ago that the Serbian Progressive Party is leading in Belgrade because some conducted a terrible campaign that is of a personal nature against my family, without a plan for Belgrade", Vucic pointed out.

He stated that the opposition in Belgrade had been leading with around 5.5 percent five months ago, but the situation had changed due to a "dirty campaign".

"As for who will form the government, I really don't know. We heard representatives of Branimir Nestorovic's list saying they won't go anywhere with anyone, some say one thing, others say another, I really don't know. The 'Serbia Must not Stop' list together with the Socialist Party of Serbia list has 54 mandates, without anyone else", Vucic said.

He also noted that since coming to power, the Serbian Progressive Party had faced numerous challenges, from the migrant crisis, through the coronavirus, and tensions in Kosovo, to a complex geopolitical situation and wars in the world. Despite this, he believes they have managed to "change the face of Serbia" and make citizens live better.

"People have given us their trust. It doesn't matter how long someone has been in power. Those who offer a solution, not hatred, those who offer a policy, will come to power. This is a huge responsibility. We have already started working today, and people will see all the projects we planned to launch but couldn't because of the campaign", Vucic said.

He believes that Serbia faces a challenging year, primarily due to the situation in Kosovo, but it is crucial for the country to economically progress and develop in the upcoming period.
