Near the Church of Saint Demetrius in North Mitrovica, heavy machinery has excavated a road through the old Serbian cemetery.
This cemetery, dating from the period 1912 to 1945, has been excavated, including the areas where monuments were located, revealing even the remains of the deceased who were buried there.
The road was reportedly built only for the needs of an Albanian whose house is set to begin renovation. According to nearby residents, the road had never been there before, and they were not informed that it would pass through the Serbian cemetery.
On the dirt road, there are machines from an Albanian construction contractor, and old grave markers can be seen right alongside the road. Those who have perished due to this construction project will likely be removed along with the debris and stones.
