Vehicles with Albanian flags on the streets of Gracanica
Several vehicles displaying Albanian flags drove through the center of Gracanica this evening, as well as along the street near the monastery, in celebration of Albanian Flag Day.
As seen in videos shared on social media, younger men waved Albanian flags from the cars while honking horns, and the emblem of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) was visible on the hood of one vehicle.
The mayor of Gracanica, Ljiljana Subaric, condemned this behavior, warning that it escalates tensions between communities and called on authorities to take measures to prevent such incidents.
"I strongly condemn tonight's evidently well-organized act—a convoy of Albanians driving through the center of Gracanica with honking and shouting slogans in celebration of Albanian Flag Day. This behavior is unacceptable and unsettling, contributing only to heightened tensions between communities," Subaric stated.
She emphasized that all citizens, regardless of nationality, deserve to live in peace and mutual respect.
She urged the relevant authorities to take appropriate measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
Subaric also appealed to citizens to remain calm, resist provocations, and avoid rash actions, instead showing restraint.
