Shahini: Kosovo risks being left without a budget, responsibility lies with the ruling party

President of the Kosovo Business Alliance Agim Shahini warns that due to the ongoing political crisis since the parliamentary elections held in February, Kosovo risks being left without a budget. According to Shahini, responsibility for the poor economic situation in Kosovo lies with the ruling party, Self-Determination.

Shahini told Kosovo Online that without a budget, nothing can function and that salaries for workers in almost all sectors are now in question.

“Without a new government, we will face many problems. If we have new elections in December, as announced, we will be left almost without a state budget. This puts at risk financial transactions, domestic policy in Kosovo – aside from foreign policy – workers’ salaries, those in healthcare and education, as well as municipal budgets. Nothing can function without a budget. The ruling party is responsible for this situation,” Shahini said.

He added that 2025 has brought many changes to Kosovo, but unfortunately negative ones. According to him, the first task of the new Kosovo government – which he believes will not be formed anytime soon – will be to repair poor relations with the international community.

“In 2025 we have seen many changes in Kosovo, unfortunately bad ones for us. We are under EU sanctions, and two months ago the United States removed us from the Strategic Dialogue, which is very important for Kosovo. Even though Kosovo is not a member of the United Nations or the European Union, it has enjoyed strong US support. I now doubt it will receive the same level of support as before, and the new government must first repair the problems we have with the international community, especially with the US and the EU, as well as with governments in the Western Balkans. The new Kosovo government will have a lot of work ahead, and we do not know when it will be formed, but I do not think it will happen soon,” Shahini emphasized.
