Dejanovic: Through multiethnicity, we are building a better future for the residents of Klokot

The newly elected mayor of Klokot, Bozidar Dejanovic, emphasized that the new local administration faces a great deal of work, but that it will strive to make the municipality a service for its citizens. He pointed out that the municipality of Klokot is characterized by multiethnicity, through which a better future can be built for all residents.

In an interview with Kosovo Online, Dejanovic stressed that during his four-year term he wants the citizens of Klokot to be involved through public debates and to present all their problems.

As he stated, infrastructure projects will be a priority, as well as resolving problems with water supply, sewage, and flooding, which is a frequent occurrence in the municipality of Klokot during rainy days.

For assistance, he added, they will turn to the central level and expect that their requests will be met.

What is the ethnic composition of the municipality of Klokot, and how many residents live here?

The municipality of Klokot is multiethnic and has nearly five thousand residents. Serbs, Albanians, and Roma live here. I believe that through multiethnicity we are building a better future together with Albanians and others. I would also like to thank the citizens for electing me for a second term as head of the municipality. We will bring the municipality closer to the citizens, making it their service, holding public debates so that citizens can identify priorities, projects, what they need in terms of communal services and infrastructure. We will strive to work to the maximum benefit of the citizens.

What are your expectations during the four-year term?

We are facing major problems. We recently had issues with flooding, Klokot was under water. We must prioritize this area so that flooding no longer occurs in Klokot, but also in Mogila, because the residents of Mogila are engaged in agriculture. When the river swells and channels overflow, farmers suffer damage. In that regard, we must prioritize infrastructure projects. Across the street we have a kindergarten building, but it is non-functional, and we will try to open new jobs there so that young people stay here and have the right to choose. In all segments of life, we will strive to do our utmost. There is much that needs to be done. Citizens should participate through public debates. Klokot needs a water supply system, we are literally sleeping on water but do not have water. Vrbovac needs sewage infrastructure, but that has not yet been completed. We must plan for this. We will seek help from the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Ministry of Local Self-Government, as well as from everyone who can help us.

Do you expect assistance and cooperation from the central level?

As a municipality, we will deal with local issues and ask for assistance. If they do not provide it, they will have to explain why. This is a multiethnic municipality and investments must be made evenly. I hope that we will find common ground and complete this part of the work, that citizens will feel that the time for change has come, and that through municipal structures they will recognize and experience a better quality of life in all segments.
