Djuric briefs Swiss MPs on systematic violations of Serbs’ rights and freedoms in Kosovo
Serbia’s caretaker Foreign Minister Marko Djuric today briefed members of the Swiss Federal Assembly on the systematic violations of the rights and freedoms of Serbs in Kosovo, thanking them for raising the issue and bringing it to the attention of the Swiss public and parliament, as well as European international organisations.
According to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Djuric discussed with members of the Switzerland–Serbia Parliamentary Friendship Group opportunities for further enhancing bilateral cooperation, the situation in the region and other issues of mutual interest. He expressed particular satisfaction that the visit was taking place in the year marking the 110th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Noting that bilateral relations were very good and characterised by diverse and intensive cooperation across a range of areas—from political dialogue at high and the highest levels, through strong cooperation in the economy, financial sector and trade in services, as well as cooperation in the fields of justice and migration, to collaboration in science and high technologies—Djuric pointed out that regular political and economic dialogue provided a sound basis for further strengthening cooperation in all areas of mutual interest.
The Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that particular attention during the talks was devoted to the current situation in Kosovo.
“Minister Djuric briefed his interlocutors on the systematic violations of the rights and freedoms of Serbs in the southern autonomous province, thanking the MPs for raising the issue and bringing it to the attention of the Swiss public and Federal Assembly, as well as at the level of European international organisations,” the statement said.
Both sides noted that the sizable and economically well-integrated Serbian diaspora in Switzerland could contribute to the further expansion of successful cooperation in the economic sphere and other areas of mutual interest.
Expressing gratitude for Switzerland’s confirmed participation in the Expo 2027 International Specialised Exhibition, Djuric briefed his guests on the progress achieved in implementing the project, which will provide numerous countries with an opportunity to showcase their economic, tourism, technological and other achievements.
