Residents of Batushe: We are afraid to leave our houses because of possible robberies
Robberies of Serbian houses in the last few weeks are a frequent occurrence in central Kosovo. Last night, unknown perpetrators broke into and robbed the house of Davor Delic, while Stefan Lazic from Batushe prevented the robbery of his home.
The Lazic family from Batushe has been the target of robbers five times already. However, last night, the robbers did not manage to steal anything, because Stefan Lazic prevented the robbery.
Stefan told Kosovo Online that last night when returning from a walk, he had heard the barking of dogs, and then he had heard the footsteps of the thief running away towards the neighboring yard.
He emphasizes that he is afraid for his safety.
"I don't feel safe. We haven't felt safe for years. This is not the first time something like this has happened. We have already been the target of robbers. They robbed our store, and boutique, and stole our cows, and van. Now we can't go anywhere; we can't leave the house empty," Stefan says.
Sladjana Lazic adds that the robbers broke the window of her bathroom last night, but did not manage to take anything away.
"Last night was the fifth time. The first time we were robbed was in 2000 when they took our cow and calf, the next robbery was in 2008 when they stole our van, and everything they found in the shed, from the welding machine, drills, and even flour and beans. Also, they robbed our boutique, they took things from our boutique, and two years ago they robbed our store. And last night they came to rob our house," a shaken Sladjana said.
She says she's afraid to leave her house and go to the store because she doesn't know what she'll find when she returns.
"This is terrible. We are not allowed to leave the house. Now the time has come that when you go to the store or the neighborhood for coffee when you come back you are afraid to enter your own home because you do not know what awaits you. This is too much," Sladjana says.
She adds that they are very upset and worried and that she does not lose hope that the perpetrators will be found.
Kosara, the mother of Davor Delic, whose house was robbed last night while the family was celebrating in Serbia, told Kosovo Online that the thieves had scattered things and had taken gold from the house.
"I don't know exactly what was taken. I saw that the boxes, where the gold was, were empty. The children are not at home, I'm waiting for them to arrive. It's difficult, it's very difficult, it's not only difficult here, but everywhere," grandmother Kosara says anxiously, and adds that relatives and a neighbor cleaned the house.
Today, the Lazic and Delic families, whose homes were targeted by robbers, were visited by Mayor Ljiljana Subaric, accompanied by the representative of the village of Batushe, Marko Arsic.
The house of the Mitic family from Laplje Selo was targeted by robbers two days ago, while last week the house of the Miric family from Batushe and the Nedeljkovic family from Preoc were robbed.
