Baraliu: Osmani is acting according to constitutional obligations, not showing favor to any party
Commenting on Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani’s acceptance of Self-Determination’s proposal for a new prime minister-designate, university professor Mazllum Baraliu told Kosovo Online that this is not a case of political alignment on Osmani’s part, but rather her acting in accordance with the Constitution.
The caretaker prime minister, Albin Kurti, announced yesterday after the session of the Self-Determination Movement’s General Council that Glauk Konjufca would be the new prime minister-designate instead of him. Konjufca accepted the role, while Kurti was proposed to serve as minister of foreign affairs in the new cabinet. Shortly after that, Kosovo President Osmani announced that she had granted the mandate to Konjufca to form the government.
Baraliu assessed that President Vjosa Osmani, by accepting this proposal, did not demonstrate bias toward any political party, including Self-Determination, but simply acted in line with her constitutional duties.
“No, she is not showing favoritism toward any political party, in this case Self-Determination. It is a constitutional obligation. This obligation is even explicitly stated in the Constitutional Court’s decision, which says that the presidency – in this case, the president – should attempt to constitute the Assembly, when it comes to the Assembly, in order to avoid early elections, since that would not be a solution. So, she has a duty, and this is not about political bias. That constitutional obligation lies before her, and she is acting in accordance with the Constitution,” Baraliu said.
