Brnabic: The UN Security Council session is a historic moment for Serbia and the Serbs in Kosovo

Prime Minister of Serbia Ana Brnabic emphasized that tonight's session of the UN Security Council was one of the most important and historic moments for Serbia and the Serbs in Kosovo.

She called on citizens to follow it carefully and underscored that scheduling the session less than 24 hours after submitting the request was evidence of the respect Serbia enjoyed.

"This is a good indicator of Serbia's standing, as well as proof that Vucic was right not to rush earlier, in other instances of escalation, to request a Security Council session, but waited until it became completely clear to everyone that Albin Kurti wants only ethnic cleansing in Kosovo and Metohija," Brnabic explained for TV Prva.

She expressed confidence that Vucic's speech tonight would be quite different.

"I ask citizens to pay attention to the terms he will use. They have not been used before. They will not be used accidentally or lightly; they will demonstrate the seriousness of the situation in Kosovo and Metohija, and what the Serbs and other non-Albanians are facing. That is why today is somewhat historic - the President is fighting for Serbia in New York, to protect the country and our people, while the opposition in Strasbourg is fighting only for themselves, to punish Serbia, and its citizens, to deprive Serbia of sovereignty," she said.

Brnabic added that at no point did the Serbian opposition in the European Parliament, which voted for a resolution against Serbia, mention the Serbs in Kosovo.

"They could have at least said that Kurti had denied the Serbs the right to vote. They didn't even deign to say that. They showed brutal sycophancy towards Viola von Cramon, a well-known lobbyist for the Albanians, and didn't dare to point out how the EU allowed Serbs to be denied the right to vote," she noted.

She said that the UN Security Council session at Serbia's request discussing the situation in Kosovo could not, in any way, be compared with the European Parliament session.

She expressed her belief that Kurti would try to use the European Parliament resolution, a weapon handed to him by the Serbian opposition.

"I am confident that the President, even after Pristina's presentation, if Kurti tries to use the European Parliament resolution, will respond," Brnabic added.

She emphasized that this was by no means an easy fight.

"I believe that tonight, for Serbia and the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija, Vucic is fighting the toughest battle," Brnabic emphasized.

She said she would not use administrative language but clear words.

"After his historic address at the UN General Assembly, there were many people around the world who followed and thanked him for having the courage to demand that even great powers must respect the sovereignty of smaller countries. Vucic is fighting for sovereignty and respect for all countries, freedom, international principles, rights, and the UN Charter," she stressed.

Brnabic expressed confidence that Serbia would remain a sovereign and independent country, which would continue to make independent decisions despite pressure.

"Every moment is used to increase pressure on Serbia. And this European Parliament resolution, considering it has nothing to do with elections, as there was no evidence, is indeed a punishment and pressure on Serbia, which wants to be independent and make decisions independently. Our people have said what kind of Serbia they wanted in the elections - an independent country, with Vucic as the President, a Serbia that respects others and does not give in," she underscored.

She said she felt ashamed that there were people in Serbia who were willing to call on foreigners to come and decide what our country would do, and who would lead it, and yet they were proud of it.

She pointed out that the European Parliament resolution was not binding, because if it had been, Serbia would have been punished at least five times by now.

"Last year, the European Parliament demanded Serbia to stop 'violating the constitutional order of  Kosovo, to immediately recognize independent Kosovo, they called on five states that have not recognized Kosovo to do so immediately, they called on the European Commission to halt our European integration if we do not impose sanctions on Russia. Nothing happened," she said.

She compared that resolution to the ultimatum set by Austria-Hungary before World War I because Serbia did not want to violate its sovereignty, it did not allow another power, no matter how strong and arrogant it might be, to conduct an investigation in a sovereign country.

"The resolution will come and go, it is not the first nor the last, but the fact remains that there was a political group that sought to strip their country of its sovereignty. This has nothing to do with elections in Serbia because observers were invited by our state, and they did not submit any official complaints. The resolution did not cite any facts, any data, but is based on someone saying something, and expresses concern about indications of possible irregularities," Brnabic added.
