The Serb List sent a letter to the Quint, demanding the cessation of the exodus of the Serbs
The Serb List sent a letter on Wednesday to the ambassadors of the Quint countries in Kosovo, conveying the pleas and expectations of the Serbs from that area to prevent the terror of Albin Kurti and halt the exodus of the Serbs from their ancestral homes, with a particular emphasis on the catastrophic consequences of abolishing the Serbian dinar, as well as detailed examples of the repression suffered by the Serbs south and north of the Ibar River.
"We address you on behalf of the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija, conveying to you the people's pleas and expectations to utilize your vast personal authority, as well as the authority of the respected countries you represent in these areas, to urgently halt the exodus of our people from their ancestral homes," the letter states, which Tanjug had access to, and which the Serb List announced at the last press conference.
In the letter, the Serb List drew attention to the violence against the Serbs in the province, which had been ongoing for more than two decades, intensifying since 2021 with the arrival of Albin Kurti to power, with the aim of "persecuting and destroying everything Serbian in these areas," and emphasized that "there is no human right that Albin Kurti’s regime didn’t violate when it comes to Serbs".
"The latest in a series of drastic measures against the Serbs is the decision to abolish the dinar, or payment transactions, which is causing a financial collapse of the Serbs in these areas. The Serbs are placed in the most difficult position since the conflict in 1999 and are effectively forced to rapidly emigrate from these areas," the letter states, detailing individual benefits and payments.
As emphasized, considering that 31,831 salaries, 29,115 pensions, 2,430 scholarships, and over 31,000 social benefits are paid from the Serbian budget, this decision will leave 100,000 Serbs without a source of income.
"Additionally, all institutions of the Serbian system, starting from healthcare, education, social services, soup kitchens, sports, and cultural collectives, and onwards, will not be able to function because the interruption of payment transactions prevents them from receiving money for employees or making any payments. For example, our students will not receive scholarship money, but they will also not be able to pay tuition fees, register for exams, or pay for student dormitories and meals in the cafeteria. None of the Serbs will be able to pay loans, and bills, or provide food for their children. There will be a particularly difficult situation for citizens who unfortunately require appropriate social assistance for their everyday lives, which will not be able to be paid out. In short, no educational and healthcare institution will be able to continue functioning under these conditions, and even our oldest citizens, burdened with various illnesses, will be left without pensions and the ability to provide food and medicine for themselves, as well as to regularly settle their bills," the Serb List warns in the letter.
The letter to the Quint representatives emphasizes that the supply of food, medicine, and medical supplies to healthcare facilities providing services to the Serbs, as well as the Albanians, Bosniaks, Roma people, Gorans, and all other citizens, will be impossible.
"If this catastrophic decision remains in force, do not doubt that Kosovo and Metohija will remain without Serbs. They have been deliberately placed in an extremely unfavorable and inhumane position and living conditions, which can be categorized as the genocidal intentions of Kosovo institutions," the letter states.
The Serb List concludes that representatives of the most powerful countries in the world "have the capacity to ensure that this intention of Kurti is not realized and that their strong and concrete actions can prevent the exodus of the Serbs from their ancestral homes".
"Believing in your determination for the Serbs to survive in these areas as citizens whose rights are unconditionally and unquestionably respected, we sincerely hope and expect to see your urgent reactions on this issue. They are truly necessary before catastrophic and irreversible demographic consequences occur for the survival of our people," the Serb List emphasizes in the letter and calls for the preservation of peace.
It is added that the Serb List believes that the ambassadors of the Quint are aware that the formation of the Community of Serb-majority Municipalities and the respect for the signed agreements from the Dialogue would prevent many of these anti-Serbian actions, but it is now more than clear why the regime of Albin Kurti consistently avoids the formation of it and refuses to fulfill the agreed upon.
In its letter, the Serb List also draws attention to the fact that even '80 prominent Serbs have been targeted by the regime of Albin Kurti with politically motivated and fabricated investigations,' including the most respected and esteemed Serbs, from doctors, professors, politicians, and businessmen, to journalists and artists.
The letter also mentions unfounded arrests of the Serbs, problems faced by our returnees south of the Ibar River who are detained under false accusations, illegal expropriation of Serbian land for the construction of police bases, as well as Kurti's regime's attempt to rewrite history and seize property of the Serbian Orthodox Church.
The letter notes raids on the Clinical-Hospital Center in Kosovska Mitrovica, the closure of a clinic in Pristina, harassment and detention of Serbian healthcare workers, as well as the closure of Serbian institutions in Pec, Istok, Klina, which were supposed to be the basis for the establishment of the CSM as the umbrella institution of the Serbs in Kosovo.
