Dacic with the US ambassador to the UN: The work of UNMIK in its full capacity is of great importance

The First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ivica Dacic, spoke today in New York with the Permanent Representative of the US to the UN, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, to whom he conveyed that "for Serbia, the work of UNMIK in its full capacity is of great importance, given the delicacy of the current situation in Serbia's southern province".

Dacic had met with Thomas-Greenfield ahead of tomorrow's session of the UN Security Council dedicated to the work of UNMIK, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Serbia announced.

Speaking about the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, Dacic reiterated that Serbia would maintain a constructive attitude regarding the European proposal and the implementation of the action plan with the aim of further normalizing relations, but he reiterated that for Serbia there were red lines, which would not give up on, as the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, had also pointed out in the previous months.

Dacic mentioned that in order to continue the dialogue, the next high-level meeting would be held in Brussels on May 2, in which President Vucic would participate. He noted that the overall success of the European proposal depended on the formation of the CSM, as an obligation that had been undertaken 10 years ago with the signing of the Brussels Agreement.

"It is inadmissible that this step is conditioned by the consideration of Pristina's request for membership in the Council of Europe, and Serbia strongly opposes this development of events," Dacic emphasized.

Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield called for the implementation of the reached agreement by Belgrade and Pristina in Ohrid and pointed out that the US would continue to be actively engaged in supporting Serbia and Kosovo while they implemented their obligations in order to achieve predictable and peaceful relations.

Dacic also discussed the development of bilateral relations between Serbia and the US with the American ambassador. They agreed that the dynamic political dialogue and talks between the officials of the two countries represented an opportunity to exchange opinions on topics that were a priority for the development of bilateral relations, achieving greater transparency and strengthening trust, especially in the year when Serbia and the US celebrated 142 years of diplomatic relations, it is stated in the announcement.

The head of the Serbian diplomacy expressed the hope that the visit of US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to Serbia would take place in the coming period, as well as that there would soon be an exchange of visits at the presidential level.
