Minister Djuric emphasized that by signing this Agreement, Serbia has made an important and responsible step towards enhancing its partnership with the USA and a significant move towards securing long-term energy security.

"Our country will, over the next two decades, quadruple its electricity consumption, and we need partnerships with industries, companies, and states that have successfully increased their production output in the previous decades. This agreement will also facilitate Serbia's so-called green transition, providing better access to clean energy, which aligns with our country's European aspirations," stated the Serbian Foreign Minister.

Djuric conveyed that the Agreement also sends a strong message about Serbia's commitment to improving its overall relations with the USA.

"The word 'strategic' itself indicates that this is another step closer to a strategic partnership and strong, quality, long-term relations with the USA. I believe this is responsible statecraft, and that both Serbian and American energy companies, but most importantly the citizens of Serbia, will benefit from this agreement, which will result in more reliable, secure, and long-term stable energy supply, especially as our industry and economy continue to develop day by day," Djuric noted.

He thanked his colleagues from the Ministry of Energy, as well as President Aleksandar Vučić and the Government of Serbia for their vision in supporting the enhancement of Serbia's capacity to collaborate with America in a key strategic area.

"I believe that, with 143 years of tradition in Serbia-USA cooperation, today's date will also be recorded as one of the significant moments in our bilateral relations. This is the first, and we hope, in a series of strategic agreements between Serbia and the USA that will improve the overall nature of our relations," stated Minister Djuric.

He noted that energy has broader implications, emphasizing that the goal today is, above all, to ensure a long-term, stable, reliable, and secure clean energy supply for the citizens of Serbia, in a way that is economically sustainable, so that Serbia remains an attractive country for foreign investments.

"This is very important. Green energy, yes; affordable green energy, definitely. And if this is the result of our work in the future, then this document will be even more valuable," said Djuric, thanking once again the governments of Serbia and the USA for having the vision to support this kind of strategic cooperation, which he is convinced will benefit the citizens and further strengthen the relationship between the two countries.

Undersecretary Fernandez expressed his satisfaction with Minister Djuric’s visit, emphasizing that the Agreement will elevate Serbia-USA cooperation to a higher level.

"Our ability to work on clean energy, as well as the potential for American companies to invest in clean energy technologies in Serbia, is something we highly value. We've been working on this for many years, and we are excited to see how this progresses," said Fernandez.

He pointed out that it’s not just about the past, but about what two sovereign states will do in the future, states that see opportunities in the field of clean energy.

"Climate change is the challenge of our time, but it is also an opportunity. It is an opportunity to invest in the energies of the future, and the first step was made today. We look forward to continuing this cooperation with Serbia," Fernandez stated.

The Strategic Partnership Agreement in the field of energy between Serbia and the USA will enable new investment in the energy sector, aimed at strengthening energy security and ensuring a sustainable transition to clean energy sources.

State Department: Serbia and USA Agreement Strengthens Strategic Partnership Between the Two Countries

The State Department announced that the Strategic Partnership Agreement between Serbia and the USA in the field of energy will expand opportunities for American companies to invest in Serbia’s energy sector, including promoting American investments that will strengthen the strategic partnership between the USA and Serbia.

It stated that the USA strongly supports high standards of openness and transparency in public procurement set by multilateral organizations, including the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), the World Bank, and the World Trade Organization (WTO), and encourages Serbia to join in adopting these standards.

They added that the signed Agreement is the result of years of effort, involving significant attention from experts in five U.S. agencies.

"This commitment reflects the strong support of the U.S. Government for American investors and clean energy projects as a means to drive the green transition and sustainable development," the State Department statement said.
