Djuric in Benin: Strengthening cooperation in the field of defense and security
Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Djuric began his visit to the Republic of Benin with a meeting with the country's Minister of Defense, Fortunet Alain Nouatin, with whom he discussed enhancing bilateral cooperation in the field of defense and security. Djuric emphasized that Serbia is a militarily neutral country pursuing a multi-vector foreign policy, which creates opportunities for cooperation with countries like Benin.
Djuric described the visit to Benin as particularly important, as it marks the first official visit by a Serbian foreign minister to this African nation, representing a clear confirmation of Serbia's commitment to advancing bilateral relations.
The Serbian Foreign Minister highlighted that mutual interest in establishing concrete cooperation in the area of defense was confirmed during the meeting.
Speaking about Serbia's position in the current foreign policy context, the minister reiterated that Serbia is a militarily neutral country and pursues a multi-directional foreign policy, which paves the way for partnerships with countries such as Benin.
In this context, Djuric stressed that Serbia is ready to explore modalities of cooperation with Benin, including experience-sharing and professional training.
The minister also noted that the friendship between Serbia and Benin, rooted in the Non-Aligned Movement, provides a solid foundation for further development of relations in defense and other key sectors.
Djuric also extended an invitation to Minister Nouatin to visit Serbia and attend the “Partner 2025” International Arms and Military Equipment Fair in September.
