Djuric: European integration is Serbia’s priority, CEI an excellent platform for dialogue

Serbia’s Foreign Minister Marko Djuric stated today that European integration is a strategic priority for the members of the Central European Initiative, which serves as a platform for dialogue, support, and mutual learning, as it brings together both EU member states and those that are not yet part of the Union.

Opening the meeting of CEI foreign ministers held in Belgrade, Djuric emphasized that Serbia is concluding its presidency of the initiative, during which it sought to contribute to the implementation of its goals, as well as to strengthening cooperation among its members.

He expressed confidence that the next presiding country will work on further enhancing the results achieved.

Djuric noted that the focus had been on building greater connectivity, cohesion, and resilience in a region oriented toward the future.

“While facing challenges, we have strived to meet our goals. Connectivity was at the center of our efforts. Strengthening infrastructure in the areas of energy and digitalization is the best way to increase economic growth and bring citizens closer together. In recent years, we have witnessed encouraging efforts in cross-border cooperation,” Djuric stressed.

In this context, he mentioned the initiative to revitalize the Trieste–Zagreb–Belgrade railway corridor, a vision that, in his words, could become a reality if cooperation exists.

“Better connectivity is not only a practical need but also a strong symbol of cooperation and of sharing a common future. Another basis for cooperation is adapting to new challenges in order to ensure that the CEI region remains competitive and dynamic. We encouraged initiatives that promoted research, digital transformation, and opportunities for young people. These efforts must continue, because they are an investment in our societies,” Djuric said.

He added that integration remains key to the CEI’s identity.

“European integration is a strategic priority for the member states. Serbia continues on its European path, and we believe that the unique composition of the CEI, which includes both EU members and those that are not, represents an excellent platform for dialogue, mutual learning, and support. Strengthening integration processes in the region not only enhances stability but also opens new avenues for cooperation and development. The value of the CEI lies in its capacity to transform through cooperation,” Djuric explained.

He also stated that, although the region faces political and economic challenges, there is a firm belief that unity, dialogue, and mutual support are essential for progress.

“We are proud of what we have accomplished,” Djuric underlined.
