Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Djuric met today with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan. Djuric stated that cooperation between Serbia and Turkey could play a key role in establishing lasting stability in the Western Balkans. He also informed his interlocutor about the situation in Kosovo, emphasizing that it is imperative for the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina to continue under the auspices of the EU.

According to the statement from the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting covered numerous aspects of bilateral relations and possibilities for further enhancing mutually beneficial cooperation, which, as noted, is based on the clearly expressed political will of both sides and the strong relationship between the heads of the two states.

Djuric emphasized that Serbia is fundamentally interested in building a peaceful and prosperous region and reiterated that cooperation with Turkey can significantly contribute to long-term regional stability.

The Serbian foreign minister provided a detailed update on the situation in Kosovo, stressing that the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina—blocked for years due to the unilateral actions of Albin Kurti—must resume with EU facilitation.

Minister Djuric expressed his expectation that Turkey would show understanding for Serbia’s positions and contribute to fostering a positive atmosphere for the continuation of a productive dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina on the normalization of relations.

Referring to the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Djuric emphasized that Serbia firmly supports the Dayton Agreement and the territorial integrity of its neighbor, and believes that internal issues in that country must be resolved through the inclusion of all relevant and democratically elected political actors in the dialogue, with respect for the competences of the Republic of Srpska.

The Turkish foreign minister confirmed his country’s participation in the specialized Expo 2027 exhibition, which will be hosted in Belgrade, and extended an official invitation to Minister Djuric to visit Ankara.

Minister Djuric also wrote on social media platform X that, during the meeting with Fidan, they discussed a wide range of topics concerning bilateral relations between Serbia and Turkey, as well as opportunities to further enhance their partnership—based on the clearly expressed political will of both sides and the strong relationship of trust between Presidents Aleksandar Vučić and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
