Djuric with Jenca: Abolishing the measures against Kurti's regime would mean accepting his ethno-nationalist agenda

Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Djuric met today with Miroslav Jenca, Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations for Europe, Central Asia, and the Americas in the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, who is on an official visit to Serbia, and on this occasion, Djuric expressed concern over tendencies to lift restrictive measures imposed on Pristina.

Positively evaluating the ongoing cooperation with the United Nations team in Serbia, Djuric emphasized that the role of the United Nations in preserving Serbia's territorial integrity and sovereignty is of vital importance, as noted in a statement from the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In this context, he expressed concern over the tendencies to lift restrictive measures imposed on Pristina.

"Potentially lifting the already very limited and insufficient measures against Albin Kurti's regime would implicitly mean accepting the consequences of his ethno-nationalist agenda, which has been detrimental to the life and survival of the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija for almost three years," Djuric stressed.

He added that Albin Kurti's regime should be sanctioned, not rewarded or tolerated for its irresponsible behavior.

Such a move, Djuric pointed out, would send a very negative signal to the region that the unilateral, provocative, and harmful acts of Pristina – including the grossest violations of basic human rights, pressures, abuses, brutal physical and institutional violence against Serbs, and the overall systematic persecution of the Serbian people – enjoy the support of the international community.

The head of Serbian diplomacy once again emphasized the importance of consistently respecting UN Security Council Resolution 1244 and highlighted the necessity of continuing the UN Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) with an unchanged mandate and scope.

The meeting was also attended by the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of UNMIK Caroline Ziadeh, as well as the new UN Resident Coordinator in Serbia Matilde Mordt, who had a separate meeting with Djuric before the main meeting, during which she presented her credentials to the minister and thus officially assumed her duties.
