Djuric meets with Li Ming: Serbia and China advocate consistent respect for the UN Charter and strengthening of multilateralism
Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric, during talks today with Chinese Ambassador to Belgrade Li Ming, expressed gratitude for Beijing’s firm support for the respect of Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, stressing that Serbia likewise strictly respects the “One China” policy and the country’s territorial integrity.
Djuric emphasized that there is a very high level of alignment between the two countries on the most important current geopolitical issues, as well as on the position that diplomacy, rather than unilateral actions and military force, should take precedence in resolving crises and conflicts.
He added that Serbia and China jointly advocate for the consistent respect of the principles of the United Nations Charter, as well as for strengthening multilateralism, according to a statement issued by the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Djuric and Li Ming discussed the most important aspects of bilateral cooperation, regional and geopolitical challenges, and cooperation at the multilateral level, while special attention was devoted to issues related to the upcoming first official visit of Aleksandar Vucic to China.
Both sides noted that the personal friendship and exceptionally good relations between President Vucic and Xi Jinping contribute to the advancement of bilateral cooperation and the implementation of major projects in the fields of infrastructure, construction, and energy in Serbia, as well as projects of broader significance.
“I am convinced that this visit at the highest state level will have historic significance for our country and will provide a strong impulse and contribution to the further strengthening of the outstanding strategic relations and even closer and more productive cooperation between Serbia and China in a large number of areas,” Djuric assessed.
The head of Serbian diplomacy emphasized the good cooperation between the two countries in international forums, especially within the United Nations, expressing satisfaction that he will soon have the opportunity to meet again in New York with Wang Yi.
Djuric also pointed out that Serbia attaches great importance to activities aimed at promoting the building of a Serbia-China Community with a Shared Future in the New Era, as well as activities aimed at jointly advancing the implementation of the four global initiatives — on development, security, civilization, and global governance.
