Djuric: We are deeply grateful for China’s firm position on Serbia’s territorial integrity

Serbia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marko Djuric, stated today that relations between Serbia and China have reached the highest level in history and can be described as more than friendly. He expressed gratitude to Beijing for its firm, principled, and consistent policy regarding Serbia’s territorial integrity.

Opening the exhibition “Belgrade – Beijing: 70 Years of Friendship and Cooperation Between the Peoples of Serbia and China” at the Archives of Yugoslavia, Djuric said he was pleased to inaugurate a selection of archival documents whose careful curation testifies to the long and rich tradition and history of relations between the two countries and the development of their cooperation. He noted that today’s gathering evokes the famous Chinese saying that “a journey of a hundred miles begins with a single step.”
“The exhibition is not only a look into the past but also a bridge that connects the year 1955 with the present time, in which Serbia and China stand side by side, bound by deep trust and mutual understanding. I am pleased to emphasize that relations between Serbia and China have reached the highest level in history; in this sense, they can be called more than friendly,” Djuric said.
He pointed out that the personal relations between the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, and the President of China, Xi Jinping, play an important role in this friendship, with their close communication and mutual trust providing “a powerful impetus to further deepening cooperation in all areas,” according to the statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Djuric stressed that Serbia is proud to be China’s first comprehensive strategic partner in Central and Eastern Europe and the first European country to build with China a “community of shared future in the new era,” the highest form of cooperation any European state has with China.
“We are proud that Serbia and China support each other on issues of vital national interest, which primarily refers to respect for the principle of non-interference in internal affairs, as well as respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity. Serbia is deeply grateful for the firm, principled, and consistent policy of the People’s Republic of China regarding our territorial integrity—an issue of the highest national importance for our country. For its part, Serbia will continue to consistently support the ‘One China’ principle and the ‘one country, two systems’ framework,” Djuric emphasized.

The minister noted that Serbia and China’s friendship is evident at every step today.
“Together we have built numerous roads and transport routes throughout Serbia, where—alongside other major economic, infrastructure, and energy projects—the modernization of the Belgrade–Budapest railway stands out as particularly important. One of the symbols of our cooperation is the Pupin Bridge over the Danube, the first Chinese-built bridge in Europe. Serbia has become an important actor in implementing the Belt and Road Initiative, which we have supported since its launch in 2013, as well as within the China–Central and Eastern Europe cooperation mechanism,” Djuric recalled.
The minister presented Chinese Ambassador Li Ming with a framed personalized postal stamp, produced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with the Public Enterprise “Post of Serbia,” marking 70 years of friendship between Serbia and China.
