Djuric in New York with the OSCE Secretary General: Urgent need to secure the rights of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija and stop their persecution

Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric met on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York with the Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), Feridun Sinirlioğlu. On this occasion, Đurić emphasized that Serbia expects the international community to react and urgently secure all rights and full safety for Serbs in order to prevent their persecution from Kosovo and Metohija.

Djuric stated that Serbia considers the OSCE the most important security platform for meaningful and constructive dialogue, conveying Serbia’s readiness, in the current geopolitical situation, to contribute to its revitalization while fully preserving the principle of consensus.

He thanked the OSCE for its support to the reform process, noting that Serbia enjoys good cooperation with OSCE institutions, especially with its two missions – ODIHR and OSCE Mission in Kosovo (OMIK).

He stressed the necessity of preserving the OSCE’s comprehensive, status-neutral approach with regard to Kosovo, expressing serious concern about the current situation due to the systematic and continuous violation of Serbs’ rights.

He reiterated that Serbia expects the international community to react and urgently ensure all rights and full security for Serbs in order to prevent their persecution from Kosovo.

On this occasion as well, Djuric underlined that Serbia advocates a “positive agenda” and the preservation of peace and stability in the region, emphasizing that the improvement of good-neighborly and mutually beneficial cooperation is a fundamental and unwavering starting point of Serbia’s overall foreign policy.
