Djuric: Seizure of Serb property in Leposavic a continuation of policies undermining reconciliation
Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric has expressed deep concern over renewed pressure on Serbs in Leposavic, following a decision by the municipal authorities—led by Albanian mayor Lulzim Hetemi—demanding that displaced families return their keys and vacate apartments they moved into last November. Minister Djuric called on the international community to respond to such actions, warning that they risk further destabilizing the situation on the ground.
“I am deeply concerned about the latest case of pressure and intimidation targeting the Serbian population in Leposavic, carried out under the leadership of Kurti’s regime. The forced evictions and dispossession of Serbian families constitute yet another grave violation of fundamental human rights and represent a troubling continuation of policies that undermine prospects for coexistence and reconciliation,” Djuric stated on the social media platform X.
He noted with particular concern that such measures are being imposed in an area with a majority Serbian population by an administration that does not reflect the will or interests of the local community—placing northern Kosovo “under the control of an ethno-nationalist and discriminatory minority government.”
Minister Djuric urged the international community to take a clear and principled stance against such actions, cautioning that they risk exacerbating instability on the ground and contributing to the marginalization of the Serbian population in Kosovo.
“These practices must not go unanswered,” Djuric concluded.
