Djuric: Serbia deserves an equal place in the EU

Serbia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marko Djuric, stated at the conclusion of his visit to Brussels and his participation in an informal dinner on the Western Balkans that Serbia had the opportunity to present all of its economic and reform potentials, as well as everything that has been additionally achieved in the past two or three months to accelerate the process of European reforms and the strengthening of the country’s overall societal capacities.

Djuric assessed that tonight’s meeting unfolded in a good and moderately optimistic atmosphere, and emphasized that, due to the difficult global circumstances, there is a somewhat stronger momentum and energy for the enlargement of the European Union, which also implies strengthening the EU as a project.

He underlined that this provides Serbia with a good opportunity to achieve its goals in this area.

“We wanted to demonstrate everything that Serbia can realistically contribute to the European community,” Djuric said, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He stressed that Serbia deserves an equal place and equal treatment alongside the major European states.

Djuric noted that representatives of various countries also raised major geopolitical issues, among which the situation in Ukraine was one of the most prominent. He added that EU member states have shown a growing awareness of the need for Europe to strengthen its cohesion and degree of unity and to accelerate the integration of the region’s countries into European frameworks.

According to him, particular emphasis was placed on the importance of strengthening infrastructure, connectivity, and good-neighborly relations in the region, as well as creating prospects that would ensure not only political stability but also a longer-term future for younger generations, so that they would remain in the region.
