Vucic confers with Costa in Brussels: Serbia expects clear signals from the EU on enlargement policy
During his working visit to Brussels, the President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, met today with the President of the European Council, António Costa, to whom he conveyed that Serbia’s position regarding European Union accession remains firm, while emphasizing that Serbia expects clear signals from the EU concerning its enlargement policy.
“An excellent meeting with António Costa on key aspects of relations between Serbia and the European Union, particularly in the areas of economic cooperation, Serbia’s role in the Western Balkans and Europe, as well as the continuation of reform processes to which Serbia is genuinely committed,” President Vucic wrote on Instagram.
He stressed that Serbia simultaneously expects transparency and clear signals from the European Union concerning enlargement policy, given that Serbia has demonstrated responsible partnership toward the Union.
“I reiterated that our position on accession is consistent and firm, for which we need strong support from the Union. I am especially grateful to Mr. Costa for his personal engagement, understanding, sincerity, and the opportunity to have an open discussion about all the challenges we face, as well as for his commitment to transforming the European perspective of our region into a tangible reality as soon as possible,” Vucic stated.
