Drecun: Elections are not the way out of the crisis in Kosovo and Metohija because there is still no CSM
The President of the Parliamentary Committee for Kosovo and Metohija, Milovan Drecun, pointed out that the activities of the political West were present when it came to the situation in Kosovo, but that no positive developments were seen since Pristina refused to return the situation in the north to the state before the elections had been held, and before the Serbs had left the institutions, RTV reports.
"Whenever there is room for manipulation, Pristina uses it, especially Albin Kurti," Drecun said.
He pointed out that Pristina institutions were using the vacation of bureaucrats from the EU to implement their tactical ideas, and that they did not show the will to fully do what the EU was asking them to do in order to calm the situation.
"The way out is not only holding elections since there is still no Community of Serb-majority Municipalities," Drecun said for Tanjug.
He added that the arrested Serbs had not been released yet, as well as that the members of the Kosovo Police had not withdrawn from the north.
"The situation in the north cannot be calmed as long as you have the terror that Kurti implements through the mechanism of force. We see preparations that at some point members of the Kosovo army may also appear in the north," Drecun emphasized.
He believes that Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti took unilateral steps on the ground and that this is his tactic.
"The fake state of Kosovo has the support of the US on the political level. The goals of Kurti and the Washington administration do not differ when it comes to Kosovo. The positions are the same: Kosovo is a state, and Belgrade should recognize that fake state and it should join NATO and UN," Drecun said.
However, he pointed out that the small steps of the USA, which were reflected in the recent visit of the Serb List representative to Washington, could bring benefits, stating that it was good for people who participated in making political decisions to hear about the facts that the Serbian side always presented.
"Small steps by the US can be of essential importance for the survival and normal life of the Serbs, as well as for the preservation of peace in Kosovo and Metohija. The US has a principle of striving to preserve multiethnicity in territories where there is a multi-ethnic composition. They can help preserve the position of the Serbs, and how willing they are to do that will depend on their assessment of whether they will be able to bring the fake state of Kosovo closer to the final goal," Drecun said.
He added that the USA would not have any understanding of the position of the Serbs if it threatened the key goals related to Kosovo's membership in the EU and NATO.
"Kurti has greatly strengthened his position on the hatred of the Serbs, and the story with the north has nourished his political power, so instead of falling, he has strengthened at this moment. The Americans are in a hurry to bring the EU agreement proposal to an end. They are sending a message to Kurti that they will if there is a de-escalation of the conflict in the north of Kosovo and Metohija, put full pressure on Belgrade in order to implement what they consider to be an agreement so that Belgrade will recognize the fake state, and enable it to become a member of the UN," Drecun said.
He also added that the Americans were working for the benefit of Kosovo, but that Kurti was hindering them in realizing their goals.
"If the situation in the north of Kosovo were to stabilize, the complete pressure would immediately shift to Belgrade," Drecun concluded.
