Drecun: The Kosovo and Metohija issue can only be resolved within the United Nations
Milovan Drecun, President of the Parliamentary Committee for Kosovo and Metohija, states that what President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic discussed at the press conference yesterday indicates that the situation in Kosovo is entering a dramatic phase of development, and there are no signs that Pristina will abandon its unilateral moves, RTS reports.
Drecun emphasizes the recklessness of Pristina. He adds that another armed incursion by Kosovo Police into the territory of central Serbia shows that KFOR is not fulfilling its mandate because, as he says, it should not allow the possibility of such an event to occur and should remove Pristina's armed formations far from the administrative line.
"The recklessness of Pristina is being demonstrated, as it evidently does not hesitate to provoke extremely serious incidents. Our police could have opened fire. This is a violation of all existing agreements, including Resolution 1244 and the Military Technical Agreement," Drecun states.
He says that there is evidently a directive from Pristina allowing police forces to "roam" along the administrative line and cross it as needed.
"This is something that is unacceptable, something that creates conditions for a constant spillover of armed incidents, which Pristina provokes from this side of the administrative line," Drecun warns.
Due to the situation in Kosovo, Vucic announced yesterday that he would seek a meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, and also an emergency session of the Security Council. Drecun emphasizes that some results should be expected, considering that, according to UN Resolution 1244, it is the Security Council's obligation to protect the resolution and implement measures aimed at that, but he highlights that it is quite unrealistic to expect the United States, the United Kingdom, and France to change their positions and question their support for Pristina.
"Despite all the verbal warnings and threats to Albin Kurti regarding the unilateral violent actions he takes, we can see that the situation is not calming down. Pristina is taking actions that indicate they are preparing to further escalate the situation in the coming period, and it seems that they don't care about any measures supposedly taken by the European Union and the United States against Pristina. It is simply unbelievable that these measures do not give any expected results," Drecun emphasizes.
He believes that the Kosovo issue can only be resolved within the United Nations.
"All talk about the Quint and international conferences are unilateral moves; they cannot lead to a resolution of the problem in Kosovo and Metohija," Drecun points out.
