Drecun: If there is no talk about the withdrawal of special units from the north, the causes of the crisis will not be removed

Milovan Drecun, President of the Committee on Kosovo and Metohija of the National Assembly, stated for the RTS that they had not received many detailed pieces of information about a potential agreement with Kurti, but based on what he had heard, there was no progress in terms of de-escalation.

"At the press conference, we heard from Mr. Escobar that there is no progress or agreement regarding the Community of Serb Municipalities because he stated that the Community will be formed with or without Kurti. However, to be honest, it is not clear enough what Escobar means by that," Drecun said.

He added that it does not seem realistic that there will be new elections in Kosovo because Kurti now has significant maneuvering space since the West, especially the US, is in a hurry to reach an agreement due to the upcoming presidential elections and the campaign that is about to begin.

"If we were to have new elections in Kosovo, the whole process would be prolonged for at least two to three months, and that is something that does not suit the US," Drecun stated.

He assesses that we are very far from the formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities and that Escobar said they heard from Kurti what he does not want, but he needs to state what he wants.

"Why are we talking about partially addressing the causes of this crisis? We are talking about the withdrawal of members of special parapolice units from three municipalities in northern Kosovo. There are four municipalities in the north. Furthermore, the main problem is not only withdrawing from those buildings but from northern Kosovo in general. If there is no talk about, the causes of the crisis are not completely removed," Drecun said.

He explained that Belgrade's position is that the CSM should be formed based on the Brussels Agreement, while the Western position is that new negotiations should be opened on the formation of the Community based on the proposed agreement on the normalization of relations and Kurti's vision.

"Kurti's vision, which he presented to President Vucic at the last meeting, is actually treating Kosovo as a state, and that through the Community of Serb Municipalities, as he would call it, which is a separate issue, Belgrade recognizes that fake state and that the Serbs accept it," Drecun stated.
