Drecun: Without the CSM, the situation can always escalate

Milovan Drecun, the President of the Parliamentary Committee for Kosovo and Metohija, says that there is no doubt that the Serbian people are determined to end the terror conducted by Pristina and restore the situation to its previous state, RTS reports.

"KFOR has increased its presence, but we see that members of the special parapolice units are in municipal buildings, and Pristina shows no willingness to return them to bases south of the Ibar River," Drecun said.

He also mentioned some accompanying actions by Albanians, such as the gathering in South Mitrovica.

"Serbs will continue to protest until the situation is resolved, but we also have increased diplomatic activities from leading Western countries to calm the crisis and resume dialogue," Drecun emphasized.

According to him, if you want to invade violently and in an organized manner with warmongering messages, then you want to provoke a conflict.

"There weren't many of them to do such a thing. It was an attempt to organize a gathering that perhaps only spread through social media, but it wasn't organized in a way that could lead to a severe conflict. You can see how right the Serbs are when they oppose the opening of the bridge over the Ibar River for traffic. It introduces additional instability and fear among the Serbian people, and it's something that must be prevented," Drecun believes.

Regarding the Summit in Moldova, Drecun says it is one of the most significant political forums, and the situation in northern Kosovo was almost a dominant topic.

"The President had very important meetings with Macron, Scholz, and Borrell, and these individuals have a significant impact on what happens in Kosovo and Metohija. The EU proposal for normalizing relations was initially called the Franco-German proposal, and it is crucial to discuss with them and reach an agreement, as was the case this time. We also have the unanimous stance of the five permanent members of the Security Council that Pristina is responsible for this crisis. It is the first time something like this has happened. It is important for us that President Vucic sent a message to the Serbian people to avoid any conflict with KFOR," Drecun pointed out.

According to Drecun, KFOR is now trying to position itself in all necessary places to prevent conflicts and no longer provoke the Serbian people.

"We saw the initiative of Macron and Scholz on how to de-escalate this crisis in a political way, and that is to hold new elections in northern Kosovo and Metohija. We also see that the Americans insist on removing the mayors from the buildings and preventing them from performing their duties there. Kurti understood this proposal. Scholz and Macron stated that the Community of Serb Municipalities must be formed," Drecun emphasized.

As for Serbia, he adds that it is not an option to renegotiate the CSM but to implement it in accordance with the Brussels Agreement.

"It is crucial to understand that without the CSM, the situation can always escalate," Drecun noted.

He states that there are differences of opinion among Albanian political parties, particularly towards the United States.

"This is about Kurti's behavior. There has been speculation for a long time that the Americans do not have sufficient influence on Kurti and are trying to find alternative possibilities. He couldn't behave like this without the support of one of the Quint countries. We see that Kurti received a warning, not sanctions in the true sense of the word, and it seems to me that he finally understood that warning," Drecun said.

Drecun believes that the CSM must be precisely agreed upon in order to discuss the potential return of the Serbian people to institutions.
