Drecun: Kurti simulates de-escalation in the north

Milovan Drecun, the President of the Parliamentary Committee for Kosovo and Metohija, stated that Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, despite EU demands, was merely simulating de-escalation in the north, as reported by Kurir.

The punitive measures imposed by the EU, according to Drecun, are not yielding results, but they are still bothering Pristina.

"They've introduced some measures for Pristina. These relate to certain financial flows and individuals in Pristina, but it's not effective, although it's bothering Pristina. EU officials reiterate that these measures can be lifted if Pristina changes its approach. I assume this refers to the fact that when something is signed, it must also be implemented," Drecun stated.

He emphasized that Kurti wanted to free himself from EU pressure, but on the other hand, he feared losing voter support.

"Kurti is taking steps that simulate de-escalation. He wants to escape EU pressure, but that seems to be less important than the support of the Albanian voter base he currently has, which is substantial. If he were to accept everything demanded of him, his support would likely decrease," Drecun said.

He expressed the belief that considering Pristina's actions, de-escalation could not be expected.

"When someone, instead of withdrawing all members of special forces, withdraws around 25%, which is impossible to count accurately, and moves them 100 meters away from the buildings so they can re-enter them later, what can you expect? Kurti is far from willing to withdraw the police from northern Kosovo, which is a crucial Serbian demand. We still have arrests and intimidation, and I don't see how de-escalation could occur," Drecun concluded.
