Drecun: Kurti's statement that he cannot form the CSM is manipulation and an excuse

The President of the Serbian Parliamentary Committee for Defense and Internal Affairs, Milovan Drecun, described Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti's claim that he cannot establish the Community of Serb Municipalities because it is beyond his jurisdiction as yet another manipulation and added that Kurti should be the one to create the conditions for the CSM’s formation, RTV reports.

According to Drecun, under the agreement reached in Brussels in 2013, the Kosovo Government only needs to approve the draft statute prepared by the Management Team.

"He doesn’t want to form the CSM. To avoid being fully blamed again for failing to implement the agreement, he is now coming up with various tricks that no one will take seriously, not even those in the West who support so-called Kosovo will accept these as valid arguments," Drecun stated for Tanjug.

Drecun emphasized that Kurti, as the head of the government in Pristina, is the one who must create the conditions for the CSM’s formation. He added that one of these conditions is for Serbs to resume leadership in the municipalities of northern Kosovo, something Kurti also prevents.

Commenting on Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic's statement during the National Security Council session that Serbia will do everything it can to ensure the safety and security of its citizens in this complex geopolitical situation, Drecun said Serbia’s geopolitical environment is highly complicated and burdened with numerous conflicts, including the Middle East, the ongoing escalation of the war in Ukraine, and the latest move by the outgoing US administration to allow Ukraine to use long-range missiles to attack Russia.

Although these factors directly or indirectly impact Serbia’s geopolitical position and create negative conditions for the development of its economy, industry, and transport routes, Drecun pointed out that Serbia’s carefully planned foreign policy had allowed it to minimize damage, maintain internal stability, and even achieve economic progress in such a challenging environment.

"Serbia has managed to pave the way for further economic growth, which is crucial for strengthening our defensive capabilities, deployed as a deterrent. I am confident we will continue to effectively protect our interests, build friendships, cooperate with those willing to engage with us, and resist pressures from the West to take one side or the other," he said.

Drecun added that Serbia’s primary goals are to preserve its internal political stability, maintain its position on the international stage, and enable economic progress to continually improve the quality of life for its citizens.
