Petkovic: CSM is a necessary condition for the survival of Serbs, there is no dialogue without it

The Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Petar Petkovic, says that Pristina's refusal to fulfill its obligation to establish the Community of Serb Municipalities, as stipulated by the Brussels Agreement, represents the most direct undermining of dialogue and the normalization process with Belgrade, and, above all, it is a continuation of the policy of persecution and ethnic cleansing of Serbs from Kosovo.

In response to Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti's statement that forming the CSM is not his obligation, Petkovic questioned what Kurti’s obligation is then.

"Is his obligation to persecute Serbs and occupy the north, given that Kurti evidently does not acknowledge the obligations arising from the dialogue?" Petkovic asked.

As he emphasized, the establishment of the CSM is a necessary condition for the survival of Serbs.

"Without its creation, there can be no productive dialogue, as Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija currently lack even the minimal conditions for a normal life and are left at the mercy of Albin Kurti's violent regime. It is not surprising that Kurti deceives the international community and avoids fulfilling obligations Pristina agreed to nearly 12 years ago, because from someone whose political agenda is the eradication of Serbs, no steps can be expected that would in any way protect or strengthen the political and human rights of the Serbian people," Petkovic said.

He points out that Serbia has been warning for months that Kurti's campaign of violence against Serbs is steering relations in the opposite direction of normalization and openly undermines all previous dialogue agreements. However, he added, an effective reaction from international partners has been lacking.

"A process of destabilization with potentially far-reaching consequences is unfolding before the eyes of the international community. Therefore, it is imperative that international partners take concrete steps to halt Kurti's destructive actions, as he clearly does not respond to mild condemnations issued in sporadic Quint statements," Petkovic concluded.
