Drecun: Survival and territorial integrity of North Macedonia and Montenegro are defended in Kosovo

Milovan Drecun, the President of the Committee for Kosovo and Metohija in the Serbian Assembly, warned today that the concept of "Greater Albania," whose cornerstone was Kosovo's independence, was being realized and posed a danger to the entire region.

"The 'Greater Albania' project is the biggest problem for the region, or rather for the countries whose parts of the territory are targeted by this project. These are no longer just the views of Albin Kurti; we now have the realization of the 'Greater Albania' concept, whose cornerstone is the attempt to grant independence to Kosovo," Drecun explained for RTS.

He emphasized that the entire region would suffer due to the implementation of that project.

"If it happens that Kosovo becomes a UN member and gains international legal subjectivity, no one would stop the completion of the 'Greater Albania' project. North Macedonia and Montenegro would disintegrate," he underscored.

He stated that it was a misconception if Montenegro and North Macedonia believed that NATO membership provided a secure defense against Greater Albanian aspirations.

He pointed out that the leadership of North Macedonia had been forced to react to Kurti's recent provocation.

Drecun stressed that the territorial integrity and survival of North Macedonia and Montenegro were defended in Kosovo.

"Those who fail to understand that advocating for Kosovo's independence opens the way for the realization of the 'Greater Albania' concept are greatly mistaken," he emphasized.

He believes that the concept of 'Greater Albania' was created as a counterbalance to Serbia and the Serbian factor in the Balkans.

"Even North Macedonia, unfortunately, has been projected by some international actors to be a sort of buffer zone, so that there wouldn't be a strategic partnership between Orthodox Greece and Orthodox Serbia. And in all of this, you now have the Albanian factor using that situation. Then everyone wonders why there is no expected reaction from the international community. Well, there isn't. So, who created this false state that is the cornerstone of 'Greater Albania'? Precisely the political West," Drecun said.

As he emphasized, in all parts of Serbia, North Macedonia, and Montenegro where Albanians live, there are instances of 'Greater Albania' formation, from the display of KLA symbols to attempts to involve the Raska region in this narrative.

Drecun pointed out that the Albanian president and prime minister openly discussed this project, and when they talked about Kosovo's independence recognition and asked Serbia to seek forgiveness from Albanians, they had in mind the unification of Albanians and the concept of erasing borders and creating 'Greater Albania.'

He stressed that Albania was the driving force behind this project, and Kosovo was its cornerstone.

"Why is the KLA symbol highlighted? Because in their oath, the strategic goal of fighting for the liberation and unification of all supposedly occupied Albanian territories is defined. If you display KLA symbols, you advocate for 'Greater Albania'," he said.

Drecun noted that on the day when Germany honored Armend Mehaj with an award, he immediately posed for photos with police special units displaying KLA symbols, and the message was clear that, with the sponsorship of the US and other countries, the striking force of the 'Greater Albania' concept was being created.

"You can see that it's a comprehensive concept, and you understand that the states of North Macedonia and Montenegro lack sufficient integrity on their territory, where statehood is disputed," Drecun warned.

Preventing Kosovo's final secession, as Drecun emphasized, is a defense against 'Greater Albania' and the destabilization of the region.
