EU adopted conclusions on Kosovo: Failure to de-escalate will have negative consequences

The leaders of the member states of the European Union adopted conclusions in which they condemned the recent violent incidents in the north of Kosovo and called for an immediate de-escalation of the situation, based on the key elements that the European Union had already indicated on June 3, 2023, RTS reports.

In the conclusions of the European Council, in which Kosovo is marked with an asterisk, it is stated that the parties should create conditions for early elections in all four municipalities in the north of Kosovo, as well as that failure to de-escalate tensions would have negative consequences.

"It is essential to continue the dialogue with the mediation of the EU led by the High Representative and the rapid implementation of the Agreement on the path to normalization and its Annex for implementation. This includes the establishment of the Community of Serb-majority Municipalities," according to the document in which Tanjug had an insight.

At the same time, the European Council recalls the Declaration from the EU-Western Balkans summit in Thessaloniki on June 21, 2003, as well as the subsequent declarations from Sofia, Zagreb, Brd-Brijuni, and Tirana and its previous conclusions, especially those from June 23 to 24, 2022, and reiterates its full and unequivocal commitment to the prospects of Western Balkans membership in the EU and its support for the acceleration of the merit-based accession process and related reforms.
