Giaufret: Kosovo situation in the center of EU attention, de-escalation and new elections needed

Head of the European Union delegation in Serbia Emanuele Giaufret emphasized that he expects new elections to take place in northern Kosovo with the participation of the Serbian population. He stated that if the situation does not de-escalate, Brussels will take decisive action, and according to him, certain measures have already been implemented towards Kosovo.
When asked by Kosovo Online journalists whether he had seen the plan announced by Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti yesterday, Giaufret said that the situation in Kosovo is at the center of attention and that EU leaders will discuss the situation today.
"The situation in Kosovo is at the center of our attention, and it will be a topic of discussion today at the EU Leaders' Council, where High Representative Borrell will present a report on the situation on the ground. We have presented a plan for de-escalating the situation that has received support from all member states. It is crucial to create conditions for new elections in which the Serbian population can participate and to have an inclusive electoral process," Giaufret stated.
He further noted that if de-escalation does not occur, the EU is prepared to take certain measures.
"We expect it to happen; the political focus is on that. We have already emphasized that if de-escalation does not occur, the EU will take decisive action, and certain measures have already been taken regarding Kosovo," Giaufret concluded.
