EU: Kurti committed to addressing the integration of healthcare and education in consultation with Kosovo Serbs and the EU
The European Union expects clarifications from the Kosovo authorities regarding the most recent correspondence addressed to the Faculty of Technical Sciences in North Mitrovica, Brussels officials told Kosovo Online, adding that Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has committed to addressing the issue of integrating healthcare and education structures in consultation with Kosovo Serbs and the EU.
In response to an inquiry from our portal seeking comment on a statement by the Rector of the University of Pristina with temporary seat in Kosovska Mitrovica, Nebojsa Arsic, that unidentified individuals had entered the Rectorate and requested that the Faculty of Technical Sciences vacate its premises within 30 days, Brussels clarified that the issue of integrating healthcare and educational structures supported by Serbia can be resolved exclusively through the Belgrade–Pristina Dialogue.
“The European Union expects clarifications from the Kosovo authorities regarding the latest correspondence sent to the Faculty of Technical Sciences in North Mitrovica. The Prime Minister has committed to resolving the issue of integrating Serbia-supported healthcare and educational structures in consultation with Kosovo Serbs and with the EU, in particular with the EU Special Representative for the Belgrade–Pristina Dialogue,” the EU stated in its response to Kosovo Online.
As a reminder, Rector Arsic confirmed to Kosovo Online that on 10 February, unidentified individuals in civilian clothing came to the University Rectorate demanding that the Faculty of Technical Sciences vacate the building within 30 days or sign an agreement with the University of Pristina.
“We were all unpleasantly surprised. We do not know whether they were police officers; the individuals were in civilian attire. They brought a document from the University of Pristina stating that the building of the Faculty of Technical Sciences is located on property belonging to the University of Pristina and requesting that within 30 days the faculty either vacate the premises or enter into a contractual arrangement with them. We reviewed the cadastral parcels on which the building stands. These are ‘Trepca parcels,’ and the building has never been the property of the University of Pristina, not even prior to the war,” Arsic said.
