EU: We regret the position taken by Self-Determination during the Certification Process
The EU is disappointed about the non-certification of two political parties of Kosovo Serbs, the Union’s spokesperson stated today.
According to the statement, the EU regrets the position taken by Self-Determination during the certification process.
“The inclusive nature of the upcoming local elections is crucial for the future relationship between Kosovo and the European Union. Political parties that have met the legal criteria must be allowed to participate in the elections, and elected representatives must be allowed to take up their posts across Kosovo, based on a free, fair, and inclusive process,” the statement emphasizes.
The EU expects the responsible institutions to ensure that the entire certification process, including possible appeals, is conducted fully in line with the Constitution of Kosovo, the Law on General Elections, and the principles of the rule of law.
“Any exclusion of political actors is contrary to the fundamental principle of meaningful democratic participation of all communities in the electoral process. We will continue to closely monitor developments,” the EU spokesperson conveyed.
