Garic: In the UN report, only a part of the problem; the land grabbing of the Serbs in the north unacceptable
The report of the UN Secretary-General on the situation in Kosovo and Metohija, which covered the period of the past six months, was very important from the point of view of the Serbs in Kosovo and the State of Serbia because it was an opportunity to hear even a fraction of what they were saying in the Security Council, as the most important international body everyday problems for the security and normal life of the Serbian community in Kosovo, Milos Garic, editor of the Kosovo Online portal, said on RTS, commenting on today's meeting in New York.
Garic pointed out that this was a document that represented the framework in which the current processes in Kosovo were moving, but which, unfortunately, did not indicate all the key problems and their causes.
"The reality in Kosovo, especially in areas where the majority of the Serbs live, is much more filled with daily incidents with an ethnic and religious background, caused and carried out by Albanian extremists than can be concluded in the report of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. But, he mentions some facts, in this current case, he cites 12 attacks on Serbian church buildings and Serbian cemeteries in the past few months, as well as the problem of illegal confiscation of the Serbian lands in the north of Kosovo," Garic said.
He reminded that the authorities from the UNMIK administration had been yielding to the will of the Albanians in Kosovo for a long time, since the time of the heads of this mission, Kushner, Haekkerup, and Ricker, and that this, among other things, had led to the situation we were in today.
He pointed out that in the current circumstances, it was difficult to expect progress in terms of the normalization of relations between Belgrade and Pristina in the direction of some new agreements, which was discussed in the report.
"The eventual agreement between Belgrade and Pristina must be sustainable, it means the fruit of a compromise on both sides, and that is currently completely impossible to expect given the blackmail and maximalist demands of the Albanians. We have seen that the Brussels agreement is not respected, not by the will of the Serbs but by the refusal of Pristina to implement its obligations. And the Serbs, by leaving the institutions and not participating in the last local elections, made it clear that they no longer agree to this kind of fraud, in which the obligations apply only to them. Therefore, Brussels and Washington should not say how are disappointed by the actions of the Serbs but think about what they did in order for the agreements to be respected and life to normalize. Because it is completely clear that the Serbs are in fact the only ones who have many reasons to be disappointed," Garic emphasized.
He added that only tangible proof that Pristina had begun to implement the Community of Serb-majority Municipalities could lead to the Brussels Agreement being reinstated on the Serbian side as well.
"This implies that the CSM will be formed according to the way it is provided by the Brussels Agreement, and not the way Kurti wants it. The other day, he trivialized the whole story again and lowered it to the level of larceny when he said that he had offered to write the Draft Statute of the CSM. Therefore, it will not be possible and the Serbs are more than determined to defend their rights. And, regarding the confiscation of the Serbian lands in the north, in order to locate Special Police and military bases there, which Pristina is now trying to legalize with a new law, things will only get more complicated and there will be a danger of conflicts. The Serbs will not agree to this robbery, and the usurped property will have to be returned to them in one way or another," Garic pointed out.
