Gavrani: EU's proposal on the CSM an opportunity for Vucic and Kurti to show their readiness to make responsible decisions

Political analyst from Pristina, Mimoza Gavrani, says for Kosovo Online that concerning the draft proposal for the Statute of the Community of Serb Municipalities offered by the European Union, it is crucial for the leaders of Serbia and Kosovo to demonstrate their readiness to make responsible political decisions that lead to stability and peace in the Balkans.

Gavrani conveys this message while commenting on the statement by EU spokesperson Peter Stano, which indicated that EU representatives presented a balanced proposal for the formation of the CSM in recent meetings with the leaders of Belgrade and Pristina in Brussels and that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti have hinted their willingness to accept it "in principle".

When asked from Pristina's perspective what a balanced CSM proposal would be, Gavrani says that the sensitive and critical question for Pristina has always been whether it will be formed in accordance with the 2013 agreement or if there will be some changes.

"I don't know if the EU succeeds, but they are trying to maintain a balanced approach regarding Kosovo and Serbia, that is their stance and position. It is essential for Mr. Kurti and Mr. Vucic to be in a position to make political decisions that will show the EU and others assisting in the dialogue that Kosovo and Serbia are ready for stability and peace in the Balkans. This is very important in these challenging times," Gavrani states.

Our interlocutor points out that it is challenging to speculate on what the "balanced proposal for CSM," as mentioned by Stano, actually contains.

"Even though we are small countries, it is necessary that we finally alleviate tensions and avoid making political mistakes," she believes.
