Gecaj: Trump’s statements show he is interested in peace prevailing in the Balkans
Security expert from Pristina, Hysen Gecaj, says that the statements made by US President Donald Trump, where he mentions his role in preventing conflict between Kosovo and Serbia, indicate that he is interested in the Balkans and in ensuring that peace prevails in the region.
"These statements suggest that a new meeting between Kosovo and Serbia could happen in the near future, with the goal of finding a favorable solution," Gecaj told Kosovo Online.
He believes that the threat of a Serbian attack on Kosovo is always present, but not to the extent that it would lead to an armed offensive by the Serbian Army.
"We know what the relations have been like since the end of the war, but I think that politicians, even though they are quite irresponsible in their actions and statements, still understand that starting a new war doesn't pay off, unless perhaps they were pressured by a major power like Russia or the US, in which case something might 'explode.' But without significant external pressure, that won’t happen, because Serbia and Vucic are aware that the consequences would be disastrous for Serbia and the Serbian people, and I don’t believe he would be willing to take on such responsibility and risk," Gecaj stated.
