German government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit said that the German government is disappointed because Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic failed to agree on a solution to the current crisis, Deutsche Welle reports.

He said at the press conference that it was good that Kurti postponed the fines deadline for 48 hours and called on both sides to use that time to reach a solution.

"It is good that the Government of Kosovo decided to suspend the executive measures for 48 hours, i.e. the imposition of fines. It is important to use this period to achieve a stable solution to this dispute, which would lead to an escalation of the situation," he said.

Hebestreit urged the government of Kosovo not to impose penalties in this period, so as not to hinder a sustainable solution.

"The normalization of relations between the two countries is urgent," he said.

The spokesman of the German government further pointed out the necessity to reach an agreement in the dialogue as soon as possible.

"The current escalation once again shows how urgent progress is between Kosovo and Serbia in achieving a comprehensive agreement between the two countries. Germany supports the dialogue led by Borrell and Lajcak. We urge the governments of both countries is to engage constructively on this issue," he said.

He pointed out that the Community of Serb-majority with a Serbian majority should be included in the agenda of the dialogue, which the Kosovo government has so far refused to do.
