Gerxhaliu: The euphoria of independence is slowly melting away; we have to look toward the EU
On the occasion of 15 years since the Kosovo Parliament adopted the Declaration of Independence, economic expert Safet Gerxhaliu says that the euphoria of independence is slowly melting away, as well as great expectations of political stability.
Gerxhaliu notes for Kosovo Online that Kosovo has had positive steps over the years, such as the construction of highways and buildings, but that there is still a lack of economic development.
"We have to understand that we don't live on euphoria; we have to understand that the solution to common problems and the opening of a new perspective is to solve the problems of Kosovo and Serbia. I would be the happiest if I could count the number of foreign investors in Kosovo today, so I think there is no dialogue alternative. Simply, that Berlin process and everything that leads to some economic prosperity in the EU must be a priority, we have to look to the future, and that future is economic development, political stability, education, and healthcare," Gerxhaliu said.
Gerxhaliu believes that political pressure from the US will lead to an agreement, which is important not only for Kosovo but for the entire Western Balkans.
"Nevertheless, the question arises as to how long others will decide in the Balkans and when we will take our fate into our own hands," Gerxhaliu added.
