Hoti: Kallas reiterated that implementing dialogue agreements is an obligation
Professor of International Relations, Afrim Hoti, stated that during the visit of the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas, to Pristina, the messages conveyed were similar to those previously expressed by earlier European leaders and Kallas once again emphasized that implementing the agreements reached so far in the dialogue is an obligation for both parties, and that history should, to some extent, be set aside to look forward toward European integration.
“The main messages concern the idea of continuing the dialogue, because it is obvious that there is no alternative to concluding negotiations between the two countries,” Hoti said for Kosovo Online.
Regarding Kallas’s statement that de-escalation of the situation in northern Kosovo is a condition for lifting the punitive measures imposed by the EU on Kosovo, Hoti notes that everyone is talking about de-escalation in the north of Kosovo, but at the same time, “some EU countries are aware of the fact that there is currently peace and security in northern Kosovo.”
“It seems that the Government of Kosovo has taken some steps, but that there are still some to be taken in the coming weeks and months. I am convinced that close cooperation will begin between Kosovo’s institutions, once they are soon established, and EU institutions, and that this process will get underway, even though there are countries that do not view such EU steps with complete admiration,” Hoti said.
