Hovenier: The USA trusts Borrell and Lajcak; dialogue is the only way to normalize relations

US Ambassador to Kosovo Jeffrey Hovenier said that the dialogue led by the European Union was the only way to normalize relations between Kosovo and Serbia and that the US has confidence in the EU's mediators in the dialogue, Ekonomia Online reports.

At the Peace and Democracy Summit "Dreaming of the (impossible): The Western Balkans free from crisis situations and on the way to cooperative integration", he stated that the USA and the European Union saw dialogue as the right way to improve relations between Kosovo and Serbia, normalize relations, and as a way to the future in Europe.

As he stated, the United States had full confidence in the European Union and its mediation in the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia.

"The US has full confidence in the EU in its mediation in the dialogue, in EU High Representative Josep Borrell and Special Representative Miroslav Lajcak, who are the objective implementers of this policy," Hovenier said.

He pointed out that "the year 1999 decided the future of the whole of Europe and the Balkans", noting that the Balkans had changed a lot since then.

"I saw how important it is for the international community to be here, to listen to the people. The Euro-Atlantic alliances, NATO, and the EU have supported you, but now you must lead. The Western Balkans is essential in the time of war in Ukraine. Europe is not complete without the Balkans," Hovenier said.
